Tata Motors had showcased a wide range of facelifts and updates at the HORIZONEXT event held in Pune a few months back. One of the updates included the Tata Sumo Gold, which has been launched with additional features and some reworked mechanicals. According to the carmaker, the update is a result of extensive consumer studies and field tests. On the styling front, the Sumo Gold gets a chrome front grille with new body graphics and 15-inch wheels with new wheel covers. It is available in four new colours – red, grey and white.
Tata Motors claims improved NVH levels with lower in-cabin noise. The Sumo Gold gets added with dual AC, which is mounted on the roof for middle and third row seats. The audio system now gets USB and Bluetooth connectivity, which we have also seen on other updates such as the Nano, Indigo eCS and Indica. The clutch and the gearshifts of the Sumo Gold have been smoothened up for added comfort. The suspension setup has also been tweaked and softened for better ride quality.
The engine remains the same in the updated Sumo Gold, which is the 3.0-litre CR4 diesel engine that produces 85 PS of peak power with 250 Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. Tata Motors claims an ARAI mileage of 15.3 km/l with the CR4 diesel motor. The manufacturer is offering insurance at Rs. 1 for 3 years as well as warranty for 3 years/ 1 lakh kms. Funding up to 90 percent of ex-showroom price is available with the Sumo Gold and one can also avail a 6 months EMI holiday. The updated Tata Sumo Gold is available in 5 variants – GX, FX, EX, LX and CX and comes with a starting price of Rs. 5.93 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
