An Yezdi development mule in the form of a modern scrambler has been spied on test runs on Indian roads recently.
Mahindra has been expected to launch the Yezdi range of motorcycles in India for well over 5 years now. However, it prioritised the Jawa brand that it acquired along with Yezdi in 2016 until now. But, with sales of Jawa motorcycles not taking off as expected, it seems like Mahindra is finally ready to give Yezdi a shot.
Spotted on Pune-Nashik highway by MotorBeamer by Kunal Bairagi, the Yezdi development mule sports a similar front profile to that of the Jawa motorcycles. There are telescopic forks with gaiters and round mirrors on the mule.
Even the frame looks to have been borrowed from the Jawa bikes, but there are slight differences, like in the case of the framework for the rear foot pegs.
The Yezdi scrambler spied on test has a single piece seat, twin rear shocks, a short, clipped tail housing the indicators and a tyre hugger with the number plate holder.
As can be seen from the state the mufflers are in, the motorcycle is very much a work in progress, save for the engine.
While it is fairly obvious that this is the same unit that is being used by Classic Legends for its Jawa range of bikes, the engine casing, however, has been redone, to evoke the look of Yezdis of yesteryear.
The performance figures of the 293cc motor, though, might be similar to what Jawa tunes it to produce. So, expect maximum power to be around 27 PS and torque to be about 27 Nm tops.
Yezdi will give the bike disc brakes both at the front and rear and ABS would also be offered, while, the wire-spoked rims will be wrapped in tyres befitting a scrambler.
Also, it is worth mentioning the rider’s posture on the test bike. With a raised handlebar and slightly forward-mounted foot pegs, it seems that spending a long time on the saddle would not be an issue for most riders.
When it is put on sale, the Yezdi scrambler will rival the Honda CB350RS and the upcoming Royal Enfield Hunter among other entry-level premium motorcycles.
