It is no secret that TVS is launching a scooter that will be positioned above the Wego and will target the 125cc category. Spy pictures are out which shows a rider with a TVS logo embraced on his helmet, riding the scooter which resembles the Honda Activa. Looking at the number plate registration, the engine casing and the alloys wheel design (probably 12-inch or more in size), this is very much a TVS scooter. If we rewind the clock, we spotted an export scooter dressed as a Yamaha vehicle being tested by TVS.
The Hosur based company is well known for camouflaging their products. The body panels like the front mudguard, the headlight, grab rail and the rear tailpiece resemble that of the Honda Activa and is used to misguide the aam junta. The fuel bottle indicates that the scooter is being tested for fuel efficiency. New things such as the vertically stacked exhaust, a shutter lock (both similar to the Activa) and the rear mounted fuel filler cap are also seen on this camouflaged scooter.
TVS should be in the last stages of testing and could be launching this product very soon. Suzuki and Piaggio currently dominate the 125cc categories with their higher power and torque producing engines. Yamaha has also announced that a 125cc scooter from their stable is on its way. Honda will also bring in their 125cc scooter by next year. Hero on the other hand has increased production of their scooters by a considerable margin. The only thing to watch out for is, will Bajaj Auto ever re-enter the high growing scooter market and grab a piece of the pie that seems very fruitful to other manufacturers.
