Mahindra is readying 3 electric vehicles, based on current models, for the Indian market.
Mahindra is readying an electric XUV300, eKUV100 and a Mahindra-badged electric version of the Ford Aspire for the Indian market. The 3 new electric cars will join the company’s current electric offering, the eVerito in the portfolio. Sadly, the carmaker’s other EV, the e20, was axed as it failed to meet the stringent safety norms.
Mahindra has confirmed that the eKUV100 will be the 1st one to be available by the end of 2019, followed by the electric XUV300 compact SUV in 2020. The Mahindra-badged Ford Aspire EV will be the last one to join the club in 2021. The company also is working on an EV platform as currently, it converts its internal combustion engines for the same. Their new EV plant in Chakan, constructed with an investment of Rs. 200 crores will manufacture the EV battery, motor, power electronics and transmission.
This announcement comes after the government decided to reduce the GST rate on electric vehicles to 5% from 12%. The GST rate on EV chargers has slipped to 5% from a previous 18% as well.
