The upcoming Harley-Davidson motorcycle is likely to rival Royal Enfield bikes in India

Hero MotoCorp has revealed that an upcoming Harley-Davidson motorcycle will cater to the profitable retro-style segment in India.

CFO of Hero MotoCorp, Niranjan Gupta, said in a recent analyst call that “work is going on in full swing” to develop a Harley that will be positioned in the retro-style segment.

Although Gupta did not specifically state which retro-style segment (350cc or the 650cc segment) the bike will cater to, he did say the category “probably has around 60 to 70 percent of the profit pool of the premium segment.”

Thus, it is clear that the upcoming Harley-Davidson motorcycle will rival the likes of the Royal Enfield Classic and Meteor 350, the Honda CB350 range and the Jawa range of motorcycles in India.

Every 2-wheeler firm wants to challenge Royal Enfield’s supremacy in India

This new motorcycle is being developed as part of a partnership both companies entered into in October last year.

As part of the deal, Hero also takes care of the American 2-wheeler brand’s sales and service network in the market. Currently, there are 14 dealers of Harley and around 30 touchpoints under the purview of the Indian giant.

Through its partnership with Harley-Davidson, Hero also aims to increase its presence in the premium motorcycle segment by launching new models over the next few years.
