UM Renegade THOR Electric has been showcased at the 2018 Auto Expo, will be launched in 2020.
Entering Indian shores with the Renegade range in 2016, UM Motorcycles failed to establish itself owing to lack of brand recognition and limited dealer network in the country. The American motorcycle manufacturer has showcased it’s first-ever electric bike in the form of the UM Renegade THOR Electric at the ongoing Auto Expo. The bike will make it to India in 2020 at an estimated price of Rs. 4.9 lakhs (ex-showroom). A cruiser by design, the THOR comes splashed with dollops of chrome to lend a premium and powerful stance.
Powered by a 30 kW motor mated to a 5-speed gearbox, the cruiser develops around 40 HP of power and 70 Nm of torque. The company has chosen a manual gearbox instead of an automatic transmission to improve on-road performance and increase the riding range. The Renegade THOR hits a top speed of 180 km/hr and comes with a claimed 270 kms range. Even the charging time isn’t a problem as a fast charger can be used to charge the battery to 80% in 40 minutes.
The motorcycle comes fitted with a 17-inch wheel at the front and 15-inch wheel at the rear, shod with 120-section and 150-section tyres respectively. Suspended via telescopic forks at the front and twin rear shock absorbers, the cruiser employs disc brakes at either end (280 mm front and 240 mm rear) and ABS to help shed speeds in an effortless manner. UM plans to assemble the bike locally in India to arrive at a competitive price.
