UM Renegade Duty 230 range has been launched at the 2018 Auto Expo; available in two variants.
Entering the Indian market in 2016, UM sells the Renegade range of cruisers in the country which are priced from Rs. 1.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai). To rival well-established brands with products carrying a higher price tag is no mean feat and for the same reason, UM failed to create a strong impression in India. The manufacturer has now launched a more affordable UM Renegade Duty 230 range that is available in two variants – Duty S and Duty Ace. While the former retails for Rs. 1.1 lakhs, the latter is available at Rs. 1.29 lakhs. (Both prices are ex-showroom, Delhi)
The duo is being marketed as Urban Cruisers and sports a bold and impressive design with raised handlebars, front-set footpegs and a lower half finished in black. Both the cruisers get LED tail lamp, digital-analog instrument cluster with gear position indicator and 360-degree LED light. The Duty S flaunts a matte paint job and extremely well-padded seats. On the other hand, the Duty Ace is a cafe-racer by design and comes with bar-end mirrors and a single-seat layout with red and white accents on the body panels.
Powering the Duty 230 range is a 223cc, single-cylinder, carburetted engine that puts out 17 PS of power at 8000 RPM and 17 Nm of torque at 5000 RPM and comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Both the bikes are claimed to return 41 kms to a litre while the fuel tank capacity is rated at 10-litres. The Duty S weighs 140 kgs (kerb) and the Duty Ace is 2 kg lighter. The motorcycles come with 120-section front and 130-section rear tyres mounted on 17-inch front and 15-inch rear alloy wheels.
Suspension setup comprises of telescopic forks up front and dual shock absorbers at the rear. The bikes come with a 130 mm drum brake at the rear while the front wheel gets a 280 mm disc brake. Market availability is expected to begin from June 2018 and UM also plans to bring fuel-injected and ABS-equipped versions of the Duty range by the end of this year.
