The much awaited UM Motorcycles, who made their debut in India at the 2016 Auto Expo, have finally set a date with their initial customers, as deliveries are set to begin in June 2016.
UM Motorcycles has finally kick started their Indian journey as the first batch of deliveries to customers will commence in June, as promised by the company. It seems the Renegade series is gaining traction slowly but steadily, as UM Motorcycles has already received more than 1000 bookings in well below two months. And with a mid-sized engine, UM Motorcycles might just create a new and interesting segment.
UM Motorcycles had launched three variants of the Renegade at the 2016 Auto Expo, namely the Renegade Commando, Renegade Sport S and Renegade Classic but for now, bookings are only being accepted for the Commando and Sport S variants. The motorcycles are ideal for those looking for an affordable yet powerful cruiser. And this one comes with quite a heritage as well.
All the variants of the Renegade are powered by a 280cc, water-cooled, single-cylinder engine that produces 25 PS of power and 21.8 Nm of torque, with a claimed top speed of around 125 km/hr. Maximum power and torque comes in at 8500 RPM and 7000 RPM respectively, which indicates a punchy top-end as is expected with a cruiser motorcycle. Both the Renegades also get a massive 18-litre fuel tank which translates to a range close to 500 kms on a single tank.
The Renegade Sport S is priced at Rs. 1.49 lakh while the Commando is priced at Rs. 1.59 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) and although they have no direct competitors, they are directly placed in the price bracket of the Royal Enfield Bullet series and in general, Indians mostly prefer the Bajaj Avenger and RE motorcycles in the form of cruisers. But with the aggressive pricing and initial response, things have indeed started well for the manufacturer. Whether the Renegade twins have it in them to take on established players, only time will tell.
