The carburettor version provides lower outputs than the FI version of the same bike.
UM Lohia India has launched the carburettor version of the UM Renegade Commando Classic at Rs. 1.95 lakhs (ex-showroom, India). This move comes at a time when bike manufacturers are aggressively launching new and updated ABS and FI models. This has further brought down of the price of the bike when compared to the fuel-injected variant by Rs. 6000/-.
The UM Commando does not undergo any other changes with the mechanical or design configurations. It is powered by a 279.5cc, liquid cooled, single-cylinder engine paired with the 5-speed transmission. 23.3 HP power and 23 Nm torque can be generated at peak operation, which in comparison to the FI variant which can produce 24.8 HP power and 23 Nm torque, makes the carburettor version fall short.
UM has not offered ABS in this version, which will be a problem for the bike’s sales since ABS is now mandatory for all bikes above 125cc capacity. The company has not yet revealed the details regarding bookings and the waiting period. The model is expected to come to dealerships in the coming weeks. A competitor with the Royal Enfield Classic 350, the Thunderbird 350, Jawa and Jawa Forty-Two, the bike is priced at a premium above the others.
