UM Motorcycles has announced its dealership network for India. It will be operational from April with deliveries starting by July.
India being a lucrative market, many brands aspire to enter the country. The latest one to join the list is UM Motorcycles. Having showcased its flagship motorcycle, the Renegade at the 2016 Auto Expo, the automaker will soon commence operating through its network of dealers. Initially, twenty five dealers have been appointed and the network will be expanded in the future.
The dealerships will commence operations in April and test rides will begin then too. Bookings are being accepted now but deliveries will start only from June or July. The showrooms would retail only one motorcycle in the beginning, the Renegade in its three avatars namely the Sport S, Commando and Classic.
The UM Renegade sits at the top of the company’s lineup and is powered by a 279cc liquid-cooled engine which pumps out 25 BHP of power and 21.8 Nm of torque. The power figures and the price puts it in direct competition of Royal Enfield bikes which have quite a fan following in India. The Renegade becomes the only direct competition to the motorcycles from the Chennai based automaker.
In order to keep prices low, UM has partnered with Lohia group to use their production facility for manufacturing the motorcycles. The localisation level in expected to be around 60 percent in the beginning and it will increase further with time. The company also intends to launch other lower priced models in the future.
