UM Imports Duramax 135 Cruiser In India For R&D Purpose

The UM Duramax has been imported for R&D and testing purpose and if launched will be the only cruiser offering in the 125-135cc segment.

The UM Duramax 135 will be the most affordable cruiser offering in the country

Even before making its official debut in the Indian market, US-based UM Motorcycles has already been in the news for its upcoming range of products, a glimpse of which was given at the Auto Expo in February last year. Having partnered with the North-based Lohia Group, it is a known fact that the company will be taking a top-down approach in the country and while its first offering will be a 400cc cruiser, the company has recently imported the Duramax 135 cruiser in India that will likely be launched in the future.

To compete with a host 125-135cc commuter bikes, the UM Duramax will be the only cruiser in the segment and will certainly add some novelty to the space. The Duramax gets a slender frame, elongated seat, long front forks, raised handlebar and certainly has a good presence. In terms of dimensions, the cruiser measures 2000 mm in length, 820 mm in width and 1050 in height with a wheelbase of 1300 mm and a ground clearance of 125 mm. The bike comes with a dry weight of 112 kgs and the rear luggage grille has a load capacity of 70 kgs.

Powering the UM Duramax is a 133cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine that is tuned to produce 10.72 HP of power at 8500 RPM and 9.7 Nm of torque at 7500 RPM, paired to a 5-speed gearbox. The cruiser gets telescopic forks at the front and hydraulic spring shocks at the rear with stopping power coming from the front disc and rear drum brake setup. The Duramax cruiser rides on an 18-inch tyre at the front while a 16-inch rubber does duty at the rear, wrapped in aluminium rims.

UM Motorcycles will be commencing operations next year with the 400cc cruiser that will come equipped with ABS and will have a competitive price tag of Rs. 1.5 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Duramax, on the other hand, could see its launch late next year or in 2017, depending on the company’s strategy. Expect the cruiser to command a price tag of around Rs. 60,000/- (ex-showroom) in the country, offering a dual-tone paint job and black painted engine among other aesthetic features that will appeal to the young audience. Meanwhile, UM will be putting the motorcycle through its testing phase in the coming days.

Powered by a 133cc engine, the Duramax is finished in a dual-tone paint job & matte exhaust
The UM Duramax 135 could go on sale by the second half of 2016 or in 2017
