The updated Star City+ for model year 2015 will get cosmetic upgrades as well as updated mechanicals for improved fuel efficiency.
Rising high on the sales chart with its scooters and commuter offerings, TVS Motor Company is silently working on updating its product lineup for 2015, apart from the new set of launches planned (new Apache and Victor). Our reader Padmanabhan managed to snap these spy shots on the bustling streets of Chennai of what seems to be a refreshed version of the Star City+ 110cc commuter motorcycle. With heavy camouflage carried by the test mule, the changes remain hidden but we suspect them to be mainly cosmetic and less mechanical.
The TVS Star City+ test mule was carrying a new black grab rail instead of the silver finished one found on the current version. The tail light, turn indicators and even rear shock absorbers were carried over from the current model. In addition, expect to see new body graphics, as well as a mild rework to the powertrain for better fuel efficiency on the updated offering. The 5-spoke alloy wheels will also be retained on the new model.
The current TVS Star City+ was launched in May last year and comes with a 109.7cc air-cooled, single-cylinder engine producing 8.3 BHP of power at 7000 RPM and 8.7 Nm of torque at 5000 RPM, paired to a 4-speed gearbox. The commuter currently returns a mileage of around 65 km/l, which could see a substantial increase to compete with the offerings from Hero, Honda and Bajaj. TVS could also use this opportunity to add a front disc brake to the Star City+ that would increase the value for money quotient the bike already has to offer. Expect the updated Star City+ to arrive in showrooms by the second half of 2015.
