TVS Working On Apache 200, Launch In First Half Of 2015

The new TVS Apache 200 will be taking inspiration from the Draken concept while also featuring a more aggressive design language. Rivaling the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS, the launch is scheduled in the first half of 2015 .

The new 200cc mill could be a bored out version of the existing 180cc unit

Despite being one of the most performance friendly bikes in the segment, the Apache RTR 180 has been lagging behind in sales solely because the new and updated competition has so much more to offer. However, TVS Motors has been making amends to the Apache throughout the year and will launch an all-new Apache 200 during the first half of 2015. While details are still scarce on the design and powertrain, the new flagship model is most likely to take inspiration from Draken concept that was showcased at the Auto Expo earlier this year.

The 2015 TVS Apache 200 could use a completely new 200cc unit or a bored out motor derived from the existing 180cc engine that currently does duty on the RTR 180. TVS has also been working on reducing vibrations by adding balancers to the motorcycle, while the rev friendly nature is more likely to be retained. In addition, a new combi braking system with improved ABS is also expected to debut on the new Apache. The most powerful TVS to be produced, power figures are expected to touch around 20 BHP with the engine paired to a 6-speed gearbox.

In terms of styling, we do expect to see a lot of influence from the Draken concept coming to the new Apache with a muscular design language. Some interesting bits including an LED DRLs, mudguard integrated LED tail light, fully digital instrument cluster, offset monoshock suspension set-up and an underbelly exhaust could feature on the new Apache 200. The new Apache will also create a foundation of sorts in the 200cc+ performance space, before the automaker brings in its arsenal of middle-weight performance bikes developed in collaboration with BMW.

2015 will see a ton of new and updated motorcycles coming from domestic as well as international manufacturers. While TVS has the more powerful Apache lined up, Bajaj will finally bring in the updated Pulsar range comprising of the 150, 180 and 200 SS models. The more powerful Pulsar 400 could also be launched late next year. Hero MotoCorp will be going big next year with the HX250R scheduled for launch in the country and internationally as well. Coming to the international players, the country’s second largest two-wheeler maker Honda has the new 160cc motorcycle that will be launched in a couple of months, while Yamaha plans to bring the R25/R3 to dominate the quarter-litre segment.

The Apache 200 is expected to feature aggressive styling from the Draken concept
