TVS is on a fantastic run, at least that’s what the company’s performance in the stock market suggests. Post the launch of the Jupiter scooter, investors have become bullish about the company. The Chennai based automaker has huge plans for the Indian market with a slew of products in the pipeline in almost all segments. It’s no secret that TVS’ next launch is the Scooty Zest in January while bikes made in collaboration with BMW will go on sale in 2015. Just recently MotorBeam reader Toni Jacob spotted a TVS bike on test on the Hosur-Salem highway, near the TVS factory in Hosur.
On careful analysis, we can make out this is a entry-level commuter bike with a 100/110cc engine. The styling is similar to the Phoenix 125 and thus we feel the spied bike is a Phoenix based 110cc commuter. The 125cc Phoenix has been well received in the market and the bike carries some unique features as well. We could expect these features to water down to the entry-level bike. The company is following a similar strategy as Bajaj Auto, which is launching multiple variants of the Discover across different engine displacements.
The Victor is also on the cards for a re-launch and probably this Phoenix styled 110cc bike might use the same name. The company will use the same 110cc motor which powers the StaR City. The 109.7cc engine produces 8.18 HP of power and 8.1 Nm of torque, coupled to a 4-speed gearbox. The StaR City returns a mileage of 83.9 km/l and the new bike could be tweaked to offer even better fuel efficiency, thereby showing who is the new mileage king. This upcoming TVS commuter will compete with the Bajaj Discover 100M and Mahindra Centuro.
