The re-entry of TVS-owned Norton Motorcycles in India is likely to happen in the near future, recent developments suggest.
TVS Motor Company had acquired the British motorcycle maker in April last year with the intention of relaunching the brand, which entered India in 2018, in the country and re-establishing Norton as a global premium brand.
A few months later, in December to be precise, Norton trademarked 4 titles to be used for its products in India and they are Atlas, Commando, Fastback and Manx.
All of these motorcycles are expected to make it to the Indian market in a year or 2 and they are all expected to come via the CBU route. Of the lot, the Commando is a well-known motorcycle, having already gone on sale here 3 years ago.
Under the Atlas range, Norton has 2 motorcycles namely the “Nomad” and “Ranger” and they will come powered by a 650cc parallel twin motor making 84 HP and 64 Nm of torque.
Fastback and Manx are supposedly under development and they are expected to be, respectively, a fully-faired and Isle of Man TT-inspired models.
It is not known if the 2021 V4SS superbike (and the proposed V4RR) with a 1200cc V4 engine good for 200 BHP and 130 torques will make it to India.
While TVS has not given an official statement regarding the same, Norton Motorcycles India launch should not be far away. Under TVS ownership, the brand should have better understanding of the market and improved reach too.
More details about the re-entry of Norton Motorcycles into India, such as the proposed number of dealerships that the brand will have, are expected in the forthcoming months.
