TVS Joining In To Bring Affordable Commuting With CNG In Scooter
The TVS Jupiter 125 is the best offering TVS has for family scooters while it comes equipped with the largest underseat storage in the 125cc petrol scooters line-up in India. It also has a unique placement of fuel tank which is under the footboard area.
After the launch of the Bajaj Freedom 125 CNG motorcycle, TVS seems to be planning a scooter for the CNG 2-wheeler market with the TVS Jupiter 125. It is a well accepted family scooter in India as the TVS Jupiter line-up is the second highest selling in India.
The work on the CNG scooter project has been started under the codename: U740. The plan is to complete the scooter by the end of 2024 but we can expect it to be ready by the first half of 2025.
In my previous article I mentioned that a maxi-scooter design would be more appropriate for a CNG based scooter due to more available space. TVS however does not have a maxi-scooter in the complete portfolio. Maybe the approach to CNG scooter will add an all-new design language.
With an aim to sell 1000 gas-based scooters the CNG scooter idea will definitely get more traction due to the affordability and availability of CNG pumps. The range however will be defined by the engineering as the claim for the Bajaj CNG motorcycle, Freedom, is over 200 kms in one full gas tank.
Are you willing to get yourself a CNG based scooter or will prefer an electric scooter over a petrol scooter for being cost effective or convenience is priority on scooter than affordability? Also will there be a separate line at CNG pumps once more 2-wheelers start running on CNG just like rickshaw and car lines are separate?
