The much awaited BMW G310R will finally be on sale in Europe but India launch still uncertain.
Love and respect for TVS grew ten folds when BMW announced its plans to manufacture sub 500cc bikes with the Apache maker. The first product of this alliance, the G310R was due for launch in India last year and was postponed to April 2017 with another delay coming to light just recently. While there is no word on when Indians can buy the small capacity BMW, TVS has just started exports of the German bike from India.
TVS and BMW first announced their plans to produce 250-500cc bikes in 2013 and it’s 2017, we are yet to get a taste of the Indo-German collaboration. The G310R might be the smallest BMW bike but packs in the desirability which will make it a success in both Indian and foreign markets.
Based on a common platform with TVS, the G310R has been engineered by BMW in Germany while manufacturing is done in Hosur by the Indian automaker. Given the demand of the small capacity Bimmer, TVS will hike capacity and would invest Rs. 350 crores in the 2017-18 fiscal year.
TVS will also launch a new scooter and motorcycle, the former is expected to be a 125cc offering while the latter is the Akula 310 which is the full-faired motorcycle based largely on the G310R. While the BMW competes with the KTM Duke 390, the Akula will lock horns with the KTM RC 390.
