The TVS-BMW partnership began back in 2013
The TVS-BMW long-term partnership which yielded motorcycles such as the G 310 twins (BMW) and the Apache RR 310 (TVS) has just been expanded.
First signed in 2013 to manufacture sub-500cc motorcycles for the globe, the partnership will from now on focus on joint development of new platforms and future technologies, including electric vehicles (EVs).
An official statement released by TVS states that both companies have already identified “a range of products and technologies to deliver significant business benefits”.
The extended long-term TVS-BMW partnership will see the companies develop common platforms by “mutually tapping the emerging technologies in the future mobility space”.
TVS’ scope will include the design and development of future BMW Motorrad products, but it will also develop its own products using the common platforms. These products will be retailed globally by both brands.
Interestingly, the companies have announced that the first all-new product based on the common platform will be showcased in the next 24 months.
Joint Managing Director of TVS Motor Company, Sudarshan Venu, said, “Expanding this successful partnership to EVs and other newer platforms will create opportunities to deliver advanced technology and aspirational products to global markets and bring valuable synergies to both companies.”
While the announcement about joint-development of EVs by TVS and BMW has only arrived, thanks to Venu’s comments that were made in September, it is likely that the upcoming electric 2-wheelers will have up to 25 kW or 33.5 BHP, similar to what the current 312cc models from both firms deliver.
