TVS Apache RR 310 has been launched in India, priced at Rs. 2.05 lakhs.
TVS showcased the Akula 310 Race Concept back at the 2016 Auto Expo and has now launched the production version of the same, christened the Apache RR 310. The flagship Apache is priced at Rs. 2.05 lakhs for the sole ABS variant (ex-showroom, Chennai). Prices will differ from state to state. The motorcycle takes the form of a supersport and yet is comfortable for long highway trips.
Lookswise, the new Apache truly looks sporty and has an attractive design. You might be reminded of the Honda CBR600RR Fireblade (old model) and even the Pulsar RS 200 but stare at the front fascia and what will instantly come to your mind is the image of a pouncing cat (the motorcycle’s design is inspired from a Shark). The Apache RR 310 gets LED projector headlamps with LED position lights, a large windscreen, LED indicators and inverted Omega LED tail-light. The RR 310 is the first Apache to get a full-fairing. Red with white stripes and Matte Black are the two colours you can choose from.
Other features include a vertically stacked fully digital instrument cluster, reverse-inclined engine, trellis frame, 180 mm ground clearance and racing stripes. Talking of the instrument cluster, it shows a host of information like engine temperature, gear position indicator, speedometer, tachometer, side stand alarm, fuel range, average mileage, live mileage, lap timer, top speed timer and notifier. It also gets a hazard lights.
The TVS Apache RR 310 is powered by a 312.2cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled and fuel-injected motor that produces 34 PS of power at 9700 RPM and 27.3 Nm of torque at 7700 RPM. The powertrain is mated to a 6-speed gearbox and TVS claims 0-60 km/hr sprint in just 2.93 seconds while 0-100 km/hr comes up in a claimed 7.17 seconds. The motorcycle tips the scales at 169.5 kgs.
Top speed is rated at 160 km/hr. Also, note that the Apache RR 310 is the first Indian motorcycle with a reverse inclined engine (till now we’ve seen motorcycles with forward inclined engines). The advantages of reverse inclined engines are one, much better performance when compared to forward inclined engines and two, the engine gets cooled more effectively. The motorcycle has been wind tunnel tested extensively and has a low co-efficient of drag.
While usually air filters are placed under the seat (in any other motorcycle, which makes it longer and difficult for the air to reach the engine), the Apache RR 310 gets the air filter placed on top of the engine. Thanks to this, air will directly enter the engine and thus deliver enhanced performance.
The TVS Apache RR 310 gets Kayaba up-side down cartridge forks up front (finished in gold) and a monoshock at the rear. 300 mm and 240 mm petal discs at the front and rear with ABS respectively take care of braking responsibilities. The 17-inch alloy wheels are shod with 110-section front and 150-section rear Michelin Street Sport tyres (TVS Tyres makes these tyres in Madurai).
RR in the name stands for Race Replica. The RR is a new series of the Apache like RTR. More motorcycles in the RR series will be launched but nothing this decade. TVS has also announced the RR Cup. Apache owners will gets unique perks including membership to a riding club and track time with their RR 310. TVS plans to sell 10,000 units of the Apache RR 310 in a year, that’s around 830 units a month. The company also confirmed their next launch is the updated Apache 160.
