After making a debut of its high performance motorcycles in the 2012 Auto Expo in New Delhi, Triumph Motorcycles is all set to expand its base in India. The British brand has sought 30 acres of land at Narasapur which is around 52 kms from Bangalore. Narasapur is already a two-wheeler hub in Karnataka as a large number of component manufacturers from across the world are setting up their base. The Honda Motorcycles and Scooters India Ltd is also setting up its third plant in Narasapur, investing Rs. 1,350 crore. The annual capacity of this plant would be 1.2 million units.
Triumph chose this location as it is located on the Bangalore-Chennai highway and thus a closer proximity to the Chennai Port. The proposal has been made to invest Rs. 850 crores in two phases. The manufacturing facility planned will have an initial capacity of 2,50,000 high performance motorcycle units. The second phase would include doubling the capacity. The company has already signed an MoU with the Karnataka Government in this regard. Requirements were put forward already and initially only 30 acres of land has been requested. The plant is expected to be functional by 2015.
Triumph Motorcycles, the iconic British Motorcycle brand, showcased a range of motorcycles for India at the 11th Auto Expo. The product families included the parallel-twin, Bonneville, the iconic naked roadsters Speed Triple and Street Triple, the off-roader Tiger 800XC, class-leading supersport bike, Daytona 675 and the cruisers Storm and Rocket III. The company is also working on lower capacity bikes to boost volumes. The Triumph range in India starts at Rs. 5.5 lakhs for the Bonneville, while the top of the line Rocket III Roadster is priced at ₹ 22 lakhs (all prices ex-showroom, Delhi).
