Assembly of the Tiger Sport 660 in India will enable Triumph to price it well
Triumph Motorcycles has announced that assembly of the Tiger Sport 660 sport-tourer will be done locally in India, as is the case with the Trident 660 roadster.
This was revealed recently by Business Head of Triumph Motorcycles India, Shoeb Farooq, who added that completely knocked down models contribute to over 50 percent of the brand’s sales in the country.
Ever since the British brand launched the Trident 660 in India, it has witnessed a strong sales growth, with the Trident single-handedly contributing to 30 percent of Triumph’s overall sales in India.
The brand has sold 1050 premium motorcycles between November 2020 and October 2021 in India and has grown by 30 percent, despite the premium motorcycle market shrinking by 10 percent during the same period.
With 15 models in its portfolio, one of the largest in the Indian premium motorcycle market, Triumph aims to add the Tiger Sport 660 and achieve its sales target of 1200 units by the end of its financial year (July to June).
In addition, Triumph also says that its 660cc platform attracts many first-time buyers while also brining in customers from tier-2 and tier-3 towns.
Revealed in October, the middleweight sports tourer based on the Trident 660 comes with a 660cc, 3-cylinder motor making 81 PS and 64 Nm of torque. It is teamed to a 6-speed gearbox with an assist and slipper clutch.
The motorcycle, which features a semi-fairing has full-LED lights, a TFT display, adjustable suspension from Showa, riding modes, switchable traction control and ABS.
Since the Trident is priced from Rs. 6.95 lakhs, the Tiger Sport 660 should cost around Rs. 7.50 lakhs (prices are ex-showroom) and its market launch is expected by 2022.
