The Triumph Thunderbird LT is the more touring friendly version of the Thunderbird Storm drawing power from the same 1699cc engine and gets a retro look, complete with chrome accents and leather saddle bags.
The Triumph family in India has welcomed an all-new motorcycle to its lineup in the form of the Thunderbird LT (Light Tourer) cruiser, priced at Rs. 15.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). With 11 products already on sale in the country, the Triumph Thunderbird LT is the 12thproduct to be offered by the iconic British motorcycle manufacturer and comes with a retro appeal, complete with chrome accents and leather saddle bags for some old school cruising; albeit with a modern heart.
Based on the Thunderbird Commander, the Triumph Thunderbird LT was first showcased at the EICMA last year. The cruiser gets a single unit headlamp with two auxiliary lamps at the sides along with a tall windscreen. Triumph has added oodles of chrome to the motorcycle, extending to the twin-cylinder engine, twin exhaust units and also the old school spoke wheels to complete the authentic cruiser look. Furthermore, there is also the inclusion of a back rest for the pillion rider, while the leather saddle bags come with a storage capacity of around 26-litres.
Powering the Thunderbird LT is the 1699cc parallel-twin motor which is the world’s largest parallel twin engine. It produces 94 PS of power at 5400 RPM and a massive 151 Nm of torque at 3550 RPM, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. The cruiser gets 47 mm forks at the front and twin shocks with 5-way preload adjustment at the rear. Stopping power on the other hand comes from twin disc brakes at the front and a single disc at the rear, with ABS offered as standard.
Another factor making the Thunderbird LT special are the white walled tyres that complete the retro appeal on the cruiser. Despite the old school packaging, the bike does not lose modern benefits and comes with a classic analog styled instrument console coupled with an LCD multi-information display unit. The Thunderbird LT comes with a tank capacity of 22-litres, making sure of less stops during tours.
The Triumph Thunderbird LT is being brought in as a completely built unit (CBU) in India and that is the reason for its high pricing. Competing against a range of Harley’s and the recently launched Indian Scout, the Thunderbird LT provides a classic design put together with a modern heart. Sales for the new cruiser commence from today across Triumph’s 9 dealerships in the country.
