The 2016 Triumph Bonneville range brings a lot of modern tech in an old school body while there have been dramatic improvements in power, build and finish of the new models.
Triumph has been bullish about India ever since its arrival and the automaker is surely making the same felt at the ongoing 2016 Auto Expo as well. The British motorcycle maker has officially launched the new generation Bonneville range in the country which includes the new entry-level Street Twin, Bonneville T120 and T120 Black retro-cool motorcycles.
The reason we call them retro is because the automaker has gone back to the basics incorporating the design language from the original 1959 Bonneville on the 2016 edition while the powertrain and mechanicals are all new-age. The 2016 Bonneville is developed from ground up complete with a revised chassis, styling and hardware.
The Street Twin is the new entry-level offering from Triumph and looks splendid in flesh. The lower half of the bike is done up in black while the fuel tank gets a dual-tone finish. Targeted at a younger set of riders, the Street Twin draws power from a new 900cc parallel twin engine which now comes with liquid-cooling. The automaker promises 80 percent more torque available right from 3200 RPM. The power it generates is 55 PS which is lower than the outgoing model but the torque is higher standing at 80 Nm.
The Street Twin is lighter, has better ergonomics, longer travel suspension and a host of new equipment including assisted slipper clutch, Traction Control, gear indicator, USB socket, engine immobiliser and ABS. Moving up, the original Triumph Bonneville gets replaced with the new Bonneville T120 that gets a bigger 1200cc parallel twin motor making 105 Nm of torque, 54 percent more over its predecessor available right from 3100 RPM.
The bike witnesses a revised firing order along with cruise control and two riding modes – Road and Rain that can be controlled using Ride-by-Wire. The T120 is also available in an all-black shade as well which has been aptly named T120 Black which further adds to the good looks. While the Street Twin will be available for sale March onwards, the T120 will go on sale in April.
The prices for the different variants are:
- Bonneville Street Twin – Rs. 6.9 lakhs
- Bonneville T120 – Rs. 8.7 lakhs
