Triumph has launched the Street Scrambler in India priced at Rs. 8.10 lakhs (ex-showroom, pan-India). Originally showcased at the 2016 EICMA Motor Show in Milan, the Street Scrambler is an off-road focused motorcycle based on the Street Twin.
Styling wise, the Street Scrambler borrows design cues from the Street Twin but Triumph has given the Street Scrambler distinctive off-road biased looks all thanks to the spoked wheels and the on- and off-road Metzeler Tourance tyres. One distinctive feature on the Street Scrambler that will grab eye-balls in a fraction of a second is the high-side mounted exhaust. Triumph has made tweaks to the chassis so that it suits off-road style riding.
Coming to the heart of the motorcycle, the Street Scrambler is powered by a 900cc ‘high torque’, parallel-twin, air- and oil-cooled engine that punches out 55 HP of power and 80 Nm of torque (this is the same engine from the Street Twin). This engine comes mated to a 5-speed gearbox and also features ride-by-wire and switchable traction control.
The Street Scrambler gets KYB 41 mm cartridge forks at the front and KYB twin shocks at the rear. The rear shocks are longer offering more wheel travel. Braking is taken care by a 310 mm single disc and a 255 mm single disc brake at the front and rear respectively. Switchable dual-channel ABS is offered as standard fitment.
The Street Scrambler is shod with 19-inch and 17-inch wheels at the front and rear respectively. The front wheel is wrapped in a 100 section tyre while the rear gets fatter 150 section rubber. The LCD instrument cluster might appear to be small but has a plethora of information. The instrument cluster features gear position indicator, fuel gauge, service indicator, clock, 2 trip metres, fuel consumption display, analogue speedometer and an odometer.
The Street Scrambler gets a 12-litre fuel tank and tips the scale at 206 kgs (dry). Other features on the motorcycle include switchable traction control, torque-assist clutch, LED tail-lights, USB socket for charging electronics and an interchangeable pillion seat.
