The Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR is based on the 1200 RS super naked
Triumph Motorcycles will launch, globally, the new Speed Triple 1200 RR on 14th September. Based on the bonkers Speed Triple 1200 RS, the motorcycle should land on our shores sometime next year.
Sporting a cafe racer fairing, at the middle of which sits a circular LED headlight, the Speed Triple 1200 RR has a carbon-fibre front mudguard and new mirrors mounted next to the flyscreen.
It will also be equipped with clip-on handlebars unlike the naked, but the rest of the machine, be it the frame, tail, and even the exhaust seem to have been carried over from the 1200 RS and the same should be the case for the 5-inch TFT display.
While the Ohlins suspension does look the same, there could be differences in damping or it could be an electronically adjustable unit. However, the Brembo brakes should be identical to both models.
The engine should be the same too, although it is not clear if Triumph has managed to eke out a few more ponies from the 3-cylinder motor. In the Speed Triple 1200 RS the 1160cc motor makes 180 PS and 125 torques.
All the functions such as the riding modes, cruise control, keyless ignition, back-lit switches, bi-directional quickshifter and the safety aids present on the naked 1200 RS should be seen on the Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR as well.
Since the 1200 RS costs Rs. 17.95 lakhs (ex-showroom), the 1200 RR should be priced at over Rs. 18 lakhs (ex-showroom) when it comes to India.
