Despite Triumph making a delayed start in India of almost two years than originally intended to, the iconic British motorcycle maker has more than made up for the delay with a host of models across different segments. Now, further consolidating its position in the country, Triumph recently announced that the company has clocked in 600 bookings till July 2014, within a span of just 8 months from launch. The company sells a range of models including classics, cruisers, roadsters, adventure and super sports and has a total of 11 bikes on sale in the country.
Triumph managed to garner 450 bookings within the first 190 days post launch and has been expanding its dealership base across the country. Presently, the iconic brand has presence in 8 major cities including Bengaluru, Mumbai, New Delhi, Pune, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Kochi and Hyderabad. Triumph will open its 9th dealership in Kolkata in the next few weeks and plans to have a total of 12 dealerships across the country by 2016.
With motorcycles ranging from Rs. 5-20 lakhs, Triumph is eyeing to retail around 1200 units in the next financial year 2014-15 and aims to sell 1500 units in the 2015-16 fiscal. The automaker currently assembles motorcycles including the Daytona, Bonneville, T100, Thruxton, Street and Speed Triple which are brought in as CKDs at its plant in Manesar, Haryana; while the top-of-the-line Rocket III, Thunderbird Storm, Tiger Explorer and Tiger Explorer XC are imported as CBU’s into the country.
Most recently, the Triumph Tiger Explorer 800 XC completed a daunting task of riding from Kanyakumari to Kashmir and was challenged by some of the toughest terrains across the country. The Tiger Explorer 800 XC is powered by a 1215cc liquid–cooled, 12-valve, 3-cylinder engine that produces 137 BHP of power and 121 Nm of torque. The bike uses Up Side Down (USD) forks at the front while the rear gets a monoshock setup with a remote oil reservoir. The XC adventure tourer completed the 4000 km long journey over a span of three months, showcasing the capabilities of the motorcycle that can claim any terrain and is a capable companion for those who seek adventure.
