Toyota Vitz is the badge engineered version of the Maruti Celerio
Toyota Vitz launched in the South African market. It is nothing but a badge engineered version of the Maruti Celerio.
In terms of styling there are no changes in the rebadged product. It comes with the Toyota logo on the grille and on the alloy wheels. Only the name and the badges have changed.
It is the Japanese carmaker’s entry-level offering for the South African market. It will be launched in the second quarter of 2023. The Vitz replaces the Toyota Agya in their portfolio and is expected to be cheaper than the Agya.
It will be powered by the same 1.0-lite naturally aspirated petrol engine that produces 66 BHP at 5500 RPM and 89 Nm of torque at 3500 RPM. To be paired with 5-speed MT and AMT gearbox options.
Toyota and Suzuki have partnered on a global level to share products and hence the Toyota range in South Africa also includes Starlet (rebadged Maruti Baleno), Urban Cruiser (rebadged Maruti Vitara Brezza) and Rumion (rebadged Ertiga).
We don’t expect Toyota to launch the Vitz in the Indian market
