Toyota Vios Spied Testing In Lonavala, Launch Uncertain

Toyota Vios spied testing on Indian roads, launch is undecided by the Japanese carmaker and if launched, it will co-exist with the Etios sedan.

The front profile has styling elements inspired from the Toyota Corolla

The Toyota Vios has been spied testing recently in Lonavala near Mumbai with minimal camouflage. Toyota is currently studying the feasibility of this C-Segment sedan for the Indian market since they already have the Etios, which is doing relatively well in the country. However, the Etios is more of a fleet vehicle.

Toyota India might target the private buyers with the Vios, which is a tad premium compared to the Etios sedan. Nonetheless, both the sedans will cannibalise in their portfolio if Toyota decides to launch the Vios in India. There is no possibility of them discontinuing the Etios since it gets decent volumes and has been updated recently.

The Japanese automaker is currently focussing on premium cars and are about to launch the new generation Fortuner in a couple of weeks. They are considering to launch the Daihatsu brand in India for selling small cars with a different brand. Toyota is also working on getting their luxury brand Lexus in India very soon.

The Toyota Vios might not fit in their portfolio well but it can bring some good competition to the table rivalling the Maruti Ciaz, Honda City and the Hyundai Verna. Also, Toyota should introduce the Vios Hybrid marketing it as the first in segment sedan with legit hybrid technology.
