The much awaited Toyota Urban Cruiser is officially teased. It is confirmed to hit the showrooms by this festive seaoson.
Touted as Toyota’s youngest SUV, the Urban Cruiser is based on the Maruti Vitara Brezza. This will be the second product from the alliance, first being the Toyota Glanza based on Maruti Baleno.
In this case we expect Toyota to offer relatively more styling tweaks. The soft parts like the front grille, bumpers and alloy wheels might see significant updates to differentiate both the compact SUVs.
The interior will be very similar, there will be a Toyota badge on the steering wheel and apart from that we might see a couple of changes.
The equipment list will be the same. It’ll come with the same touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, automatic climate control system, multi-function steering wheel, etc.
The mechanicals will be shared too. It will be powered by a BS6 compliant 1.5-litre SHVS petrol engine producing 104.7 PS and 138 Nm of peak torque.
This engine will be offered with both 5-speed manual and 4-speed automatic transmission options.
Expect the price to start around Rs. 7.50 lakhs (ex-showroom). It will compete against the Maruti Vitara Brezza (yes its own donor), Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300, Ford EcoSport, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet and the upcoming Nissan Magnite and Renault Kiger as well.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser has a wide range of rivals to fight with. Toyota is expected to offer more tempting warranty and finance offers with the Urban Cruiser against the Vitara Brezza.
