Toyota has delayed the launch of the Urban Cruiser compact SUV. The vehicle was supposed to be launched by August and now the wait has been extended.
Reports state the delay is due to Maruti Suzuki not dispatching the cars and the Urban Cruiser has not reached Toyota dealerships yet. The compact SUV will reach Toyota dealerships directly from the factory.
Maruti Suzuki recently commenced production at its factory in a phased manner. It is unable to meet the demand from Arena and Nexa customers.
The Urban Cruiser will be based on the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza and unlike the Toyota Glanza, will come with some changes to differentiate itself from its sister car.
Modifications will be made to the grille and bumpers but the headlamps, taillights and alloy wheels are expected to be same. The cabin too will be changed with brighter tones and new graphics, while more equipment is expected to be offered as standard.
The Toyota Urban Cruiser is expected to come with a 1.5-litre petrol engine with mild hybrid technology, which would be paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. A 4-speed automatic will be optional.
The SUV is likely to be sold in mid and top variants like the Glanza and would probably cost from Rs. 8.5 lakhs (ex-showroom). Toyota will offer a three-year warranty pack as standard.
The Japanese carmaker trademarked the name Urban Cruiser recently which suggests it is for Toyota’s rebadged version of Brezza. However, the name is officially not confirmed yet.
