The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder trademark could have been filed for an upcoming new variant
Japanese carmaker Toyota has received the trademark for the Urban Cruiser Hyryder moniker, which indicates that a new variant or a special edition model is in the offing.
Ever since the Urban Cruiser compact SUV and Glanza hatchback (based on the Maruti Vitara Brezza and Baleno, respectively) went on sale, Toyota’s fortunes have changed in India.
In October, Toyota sold 2100 units of the Urban Cruiser, which was bested only by the Innova Crysta (6096 units) and the Glanza (2202 units).
In order to add a bit more spice to the mix, Toyota seems to be working on the Hyryder edition or variant of the compact SUV which could be introduced in the coming weeks.
One would imagine that, given the Hyryder moniker, the car would be given a bit more rugged look. But, since the car is front-wheel drive and since it already has close to 200 mm of road clearance, it might not ride taller than it does at present.
It could be that the Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder trademark was filed for a model which will sport a new paint and graphics scheme, while it could also come with more features than the regular version.
However, mechanically, the new variant/edition of the compact SUV should remain identical to the regular versions. Power will come from a 1.5-litre petrol motor (103 BHP and 138 Nm) that can be teamed either to a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed auto (with ISG).
The Urban Cruiser is currently offered in Mid, High and Premium variants and costs between Rs. 8.72 lakhs and Rs. 11.40 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new variant/edition could well cost a bit more than the top-spec variant.
