Toyota will discontinue the 1.4-litre diesel engine from its entire lineup in India.
A few months back in August, TKM Vice-Chairman Shekar Viswanathan said that the Japanese carmaker still sees demand for diesel variants and will continue to manufacture them till they have the future technology setting in. However, Toyota has now decided to discontinue the 1.4-litre diesel engine from its India lineup.
The small diesel engine will get discontinued after the BS6 emission norms kick in. This means, Toyota will discontinue the diesel variants of the Corolla Altis, Etios Liva, Etios Cross and Platinum Etios sedan.
The Japanese carmaker claims that the cost economics of these product after transition to BS6 emission standards will not be viable for the consumer. However, Toyota will continue to offer diesel engine options with the Innova and Fortuner in India.
