Toyota will be premiering the new Innova at the 2016 Auto Expo and the company will organise a Heritage of Innova contest too.
Toyota will be showcasing the 2016 Innova at the upcoming Auto Expo and this is one of the most important cars to be showcased at the biennial event. The first generation Innova is an extremely popular car in the country and people have been looking forward to the second generation of the MPV since a long time now. The 2016 Toyota Innova is bigger and better than the current model in a lot of ways and the Japanese automaker has a lot riding on the utility vehicle.
Toyota has now teased the new Innova in a picture which shows only the silhouette of the MPV and embedded in it are pictures of various owners of the current Innova. The firm has initiated the ‘Heritage of Innova’ wall contest for its customers. The MPV gets major styling changes and it looks much more modern compared to the outgoing version. The interiors have also been given major changes and they are loaded with more features now.
On the mechanical front, the 2016 Toyota Innova comes powered by a new 2.4-litre diesel engine churning out 149 PS of power and 342 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to 5-speed manual and 6-speed automatic transmissions. The vehicle also gets a 2.0-litre petrol engine producing 139 PS of power and 187 Nm of torque and it comes with the same transmissions as the oil-burner. Diesel engines more than 2000cc have been banned in Delhi so it is likely that Toyota will offer the petrol engine in the Indian market as well.
The Innova is an important MPV so Toyota wouldn’t really want to lose out on a fat chunk of sales by offering only the diesel engine. The 2016 Toyota Innova will be launched later this year and is expected to be a bit pricier than the current model, with the top variant reaching a price tag of approximately Rs. 24 lakhs (on-road). The MPV will compete with the likes of the Renault Lodgy, Honda Mobilio, Maruti Ertiga and Mahindra Xylo, all of which are a segment below.
