2025 Toyota Innova HyCross updated with Acoustic Vehicle Warning System (AVAS)

Toyota has introduced a minor update for the Innova HyCross in its 2025 model year lineup. Along with subtle revisions to its badging, the MPV now comes equipped with an Acoustic Vehicle Warning System (AVAS) in select variants. The updated HyCross is priced between Rs. 19.09 lakhs and Rs. 31.34 lakhs (ex-showroom).

New Acoustic Vehicle Warning System (AVAS)

The most notable addition to the HyCross is the Acoustic Vehicle Warning System (AVAS), a feature commonly found in electric vehicles. The system uses external speakers to emit a sound, alerting pedestrians and other road users of the vehicle’s presence when driving at low speeds in electric mode. This feature is particularly useful in hybrid models that can operate silently in EV mode, enhancing road safety. It is available in the VX, VX(O), ZX and ZX(O) variants, all of which are equipped with Toyota’s strong-hybrid powertrain.

Badging Update: ‘HEV’ Replaces ‘Hybrid’

Toyota has also updated the badging on the strong-hybrid variants of the Innova HyCross. Instead of the previous ‘Hybrid’ badge, these models now sport a new ‘HEV’ (Hybrid Electric Vehicle) badge, aligning with Toyota’s global branding strategy. The updated badging can be found on the front doors and the tailgate.

Powertrain Options Remain Unchanged

Mechanically, the HyCross retains its existing powertrain lineup. The standard variants continue with a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, while higher trims feature a 2.0-litre petrol engine paired with a strong-hybrid system that includes an electric motor and an onboard battery. Both powertrains are mated to a CVT automatic transmission as standard.

While the 2025 update does not bring any mechanical changes, the introduction of AVAS enhances safety and the refreshed badging reflects Toyota’s evolving branding strategy for electrified vehicles. The Innova HyCross remains a strong contender in the MPV segment, offering a blend of fuel efficiency, hybrid technology and premium features.
