Toyota is testing a CNG version of its popular MPV Innova Crysta.
Toyota launched the BS6 version of the Innova Crysta few days back and with this update, the MPV lost its 2.8-litre diesel engine. The Innova Crysta is now available with only 2 engine options – 2.7-litre petrol and 2.4-litre diesel and both the engines are available with an MT or an AT.
Toyota is now testing a CNG version of the Innova Crysta and the same has been spied in Gurgaon. It is likely that this version will be targeted towards fleet buyers because prices of the 2.4 diesel variant saw a significant increase post the BS6 update.
The CNG kit will come mated to the same 2.7-litre petrol engine but it might offer lesser power and torque. There’s a possibility that the CNG version will be available with an MT only. CNG cars offer low running costs and if the Innova CNG offers a good range on a full tank, it might become a new favourite and a great alternative to fleet operators who now find the diesel variant pricier.
The 2.7-litre petrol engine on the Toyota Innova Crysta produces 166 PS and 245 Nm while the 2.4-litre diesel engine churns out 150 PS and 343 Nm with a 5-speed MT or 150 PS and 360 Nm with a 6-speed AT. Toyota will soon face tough competition because Kia is gearing up to launch the Carnival.
