Toyota has launched the hybrid version of the Camry in India and the manufacturer claims that it is the first locally manufactured hybrid in our country. It is priced at Rs. 29,75,000/- (ex-showroom, Delhi) and the bookings and deliveries have commenced today. The Toyota Camry Hybrid will be manufactured at the company’s second plant situated in Bidadi, near Bangalore. The regular seventh generation Camry was launched in India last year. The new Camry Hybrid is based on the same model with new electric mechanicals and mild styling changes on the exteriors as well as interiors.
The Toyota Camry Hybrid features the same 2.5-litre petrol motor that produces 180 PS of peak power and 233 Nm of peak torque. The combined power of the Hybrid Synergy Drive system sums up to 205 PS, coupled with a E-CVT automatic transmission to boost efficiency. Toyota claims 19.16 km/l of fuel efficiency with 122.8 gm of CO2 emissions. On the exteriors it gets added with hybrid exclusive grille, bumper and fog lamp bezel. There are LED headlamps, rear fog lamps, 17-inch alloys, auto folding and reverse linked memorised rear view mirrors.
On the interiors, the Toyota Camry Hybrid gets power reclining rear seats, 3 zone AC, ventilated front seats, hybrid combimeter and system Indicator, power tilt and telescopic steering with memory, driver seat position memory, power sunshade rear window and manual sunshade rear door windows. On the safety front, Toyota offers 4 airbags, hill start assist, vehicle stability control, traction control, back monitors and corner sensors. The Camry Hybrid is priced around Rs. 5 lakhs premium over the regular model and Rs. 50,000/- cheaper than the Prius, making it a much better alternative than the Prius.
