Leaked picture of the upcoming Toyota Hyryder completely reveals the front end, looks beefy and muscular
Ahead of its unveil on 1st July, the completely undisguised front-end of the Toyota Hyryder has been leaked giving us hints about how the upcoming SUV gonna look. From the first glimpse, all we can see is muscle with chunky panels.
The Hyryder in picture completely looks different from the sketch leaked many days ago except for the eyebrow DRLs. The twin-strip DRLs, fuse with the front bonnet lip.
The car nearly lacks a top grille while the ventilation is fully taken care by the massive trapezoidal honeycomb grille at the bottom that also houses the number plate.
Above the bumper, the bonnet lip element is broad with a chrome line at the centre that also fuses with the DRLs. It holds the Toyota logo.
Interestingly, there’s no blue tint on the logo which means, the variant leaked is just the mild hybrid unit. But it could be among the higher variants with dual-tone red and black finish.
Like the Hyundai Creta and Tata Harrier among others, the headlamps are placed as separate units on the bumper and they are angular in shape though quite small in size. The, most probably, LED units have matte black surrounds.
At the bottom of the bumper, there’s a large skid plate which also doubles up as the bumper element. It gets a metallic ash finish. There are black roof rails at the top and the black ORVMs too.
The upcoming Hyryder will rival Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos in the D-segment along with its brother from Maruti Suzuki codenamed YFG.
The much-hyped SUV, which is on test for quite a long time, will get a 1.5-litre petrol-only engine with a mild and strong hybrid powertrain.
While the mild hybrid system will get featured on the base to mid variants, the stronger system will find its way to the top models.
The strong hybrid variants will offer selectable drive modes unlike the recently launched Honda City e:HEV hybrid sedan. There would be 3 drive modes – pure petrol, hybrid drive, and pure EV.
In the pure EV mode, the car expected to run for about 80-100 km which is pretty decent for a hybrid. In addition, the overall fuel efficiency is expected to be upwards of 23 km/litre.
This project is a joint effort of Maruti Suzuki and Toyota wherein the partners will make 2 premium SUVs 1 for each with segment-best features and strong-hybrid powerplant to take the fight against Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos.
Both cars will be manufactured by Toyota with majority of the component suppliers from Maruti Suzuki’s stable.
The Hyryder will, very well, be a proper SUV measuring more than 4.3 metres in length providing ample space on the inside like the Creta. It will also sport bulbous dimensions for good road presence.
With the commencement of trial production of both the cars, their launch might happen in July end with deliveries going full-swing by Diwali.
The SUVs are built on Toyota’s low-cost DNGA platform that does duty on many Toyota and Daihatsu cars abroad. But, some reports say, they will be underpinned by the global Suzuki Vitara platform. The SUVs will be completely localised for keeping costs in check.
