Toyota has introduced the Hiace with a Rs. 55 lakhs (ex-showroom) price tag in India.
However, this is the fifth-generation model that made its debut back in 2004 and not the latest sixth-generation version that was introduced overseas 2 years ago.
This fully-imported people carrier will be sold in limited numbers, with only 50 units assigned to the initial batch that reached India.
On the outside, the vehicle looks like a box on 4 wheels. But does feature a large chrome element upfront. What the simple shape does is offer more space inside, for the Hiace introduced in India can seat up to 14 people.
Inside, being a vehicle that was designed back in the early noughties, the Hiace does not get a high-tech cabin. Instead, what the Toyota Hiace price will get customers is a utilitarian interior with lots of stowage space.
It does come with a 2 DIN audio system with AUX, CD and USB support, a dash-mounted gear selector, power windows, air-con vents for every row, rear defogger, semi-reclining seats and power-sliding rear doors.
Powered by a 2.8-litre 4-cylinder turbo-diesel motor, similar to the one that is present under the Fortuner‘s bonnet, which makes 151 HP and 300 Nm of torque, the vehicle will come with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
Safety-wise, the Toyota Hiace price gets front airbags, ABS and EBD. The van can only be had in either white or silver colour options for now.
