Japanese auto giants Toyota and Suzuki announced their partnership last year. The partnership extends globally and the companies have agreed to share their technologies and products for joint development. This will be witnessed as Toyota in India will rebadge and sell the Maruti Suzuki Baleno. This will be followed by more vehicles like the Ertiga, Ciaz and Vitara Brezza.

It has now been learnt that the Toyota version of the Baleno will be called Glanza. The production of the Toyota Glanza hatchback has already begun at Suzuki’s plant in Gujarat. The plant is set up by Suzuki Motor Corporation where it manufactures cars for its Indian subsidiary Maruti Suzuki. Additionally, at a later stage, Toyota will move the manufacturing of the Glanza to one of its two plants near Bangalore once the sourcing of parts and components has been done.

The Toyota Glanza is expected to be available only with the 1.2-litre K12B petrol engine for now. The engine produces 83 PS and 115 Nm and has been recently updated to make it BS6 ready. It will be mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. However, it is to be seen if Toyota would use the new 1.2-litre Dualjet (K12C) engine with SHVS which is now available in the Baleno. The vehicle is also expected to get similar kind of features as in the Baleno.

In terms of visual appearance, expect the Toyota Glanza to get a redesigned front grille and headlights similar to the Toyota design philosophy. The interiors, however, could have minimal changes. When launched, The Toyota Glanza will compete against then Maruti Baleno, Hyundai i20 and the Honda Jazz. The Glanza is likely to be priced a bit more than the Baleno.
