Remember the Maruti Baleno hybrid that was spied on test recently? Well, Toyota Glanza, the top-selling premium hatchback’s twin is also set to get a strong hybrid variant soon.
Most likely, the car is sporting the exact same hybrid tech that we will see on the Baleno, for, apart from the badging, there is nothing to differentiate them from one another until now.
However, what kind of hybrid powertrain the car possesses still evades us, but, it is hoped that the hybrid system is the same setup seen on the Swift hybrid showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.
That model had a 1.2-litre petrol motor, good for 92 HP and 118 Nm, working alongside an integrated 10 kW electric motor that can put out 30 Nm of torque.
The electric motor, said Maruti, provides torque boost and aided engine idling and thus, the Swift hybrid could return 32 km/l, it was claimed.
If this is the same hybrid system that the Baleno will sport, then the Toyota Glanza hybrid spied on test is likely to be equipped with the technology.
Note that the Glanza already comes with a mild hybrid system that incorportates a starter generator with its 1.2-litre petrol motor. With the setup, the car can return a claimed fuel economy figure of close to 24 km/l.
This mild hybrid tech is offered only in the G (MT) trim and the Toyota Glanza hybrid spied on test was also a G variant. Thus, it makes sense to speculate that the car might have a bigger battery and a 10 kW electric motor like in the Swift hybrid.
Once Maruti launches the Baleno hybrid this year, Toyota is expected to follow suit and introduce the Glanza hybrid.
