Toyota expands Fortuner Legender lineup with new 4×4 manual variant
Toyota Fortuner Legender updated with a new 4×4 manual transmission variant, priced at Rs. 46.36 lakhs (ex-showroom). This addition makes the Legender available in three configurations — 4×4 MT, 4×2 AT and 4×4 AT — broadening choices for buyers seeking a premium SUV with off-road capabilities.
Manual Transmission in 4×4 Variant
The key update with this new variant is the 6-speed manual gearbox, which is paired with Toyota’s 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine. The power output remains unchanged at 204 HP but the torque delivery differs from the automatic version. The manual variant produces 420 Nm of torque, which is 80 Nm lower than the automatic version’s 500 Nm.
Apart from the new transmission option, the manual version sees no alterations in its features list or design elements, keeping it consistent with its automatic counterparts.
Pricing and Market Positioning
At Rs. 46.36 lakh, the Fortuner Legender 4×4 MT undercuts the equivalent automatic variant by approximately Rs. 1.73 lakh, making it the most affordable 4×4 Legender available.
In terms of market positioning, the Legender 4×4 MT sits within the higher end of the premium seven-seat SUV segment. Its pricing puts it up against rivals like the MG Gloster and the Jeep Meridian. However, it’s worth noting that neither of these competitors offer a manual gearbox with a 4×4 drivetrain.
Design, Colours and Features
Toyota has kept the overall design, interior layout and feature offerings unchanged for the new manual variant. It continues to be offered in a dual-tone Platinum White Pearl with Black Roof exterior colour scheme, paired with 18-inch alloy wheels.
The cabin retains the black and maroon upholstery theme and the feature list mirrors that of the automatic version. Notable equipment includes ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, an 11-speaker JBL audio system with subwoofer, hands-free tailgate operation and seven airbags for safety.
Conclusion
With the introduction of the manual 4×4 variant, Toyota is catering to enthusiasts who prefer greater control over gear shifts, especially during off-road adventures. By offering the manual option without compromising on features or aesthetics, Toyota is aiming to strike a balance between rugged capability and premium appeal in the Fortuner Legender range.
