The 2017 Toyota Fortuner has been made available with 2.7-litre petrol and 2.8-litre diesel engines.
Toyota has confirmed to MotorBeam that they have no plans to launch the 2.4-litre diesel engine in the Fortuner in India. Contrary to earlier speculations of their plans to add the 2.4-litre diesel engine later, it is now confirmed that it won’t be added to the Fortuner’s portfolio in India. The only diesel engine option available right now is the 2.8-litre unit and it is going to stay that way.
Toyota has managed to create a buzz since a long time now with the new Fortuner. After a long wait, the Japanese automaker has finally amazed the crowd with its stunning new SUV hitting the market. But, the engine options are completely different as compared to the previous trims. Now, it is available with 2.7-litre petrol and 2.8-litre diesel motors with major interior and cosmetic changes.
Cosmetically, it has been more beautified with sharper wraparound headlights, projector lamps and LED DRLs. Much more elegant chrome accents on the front bumper and grille are the eye catchy elements. At the rear, electric tailgate and LED tail lamps are few more attractive additions to the looks. Overall, it now has the capabilities to grab the attention with a more aggressive design.
Talking about the power figures, the petrol motor is capable of churning out 164 HP of power and 245 Nm of torque. Whereas, the diesel engine delivers 174 HP of power with 420 Nm (Manual) and 450 Nm (Automatic) of torque. The petrol variant comes mated to either a 5-speed manual or 6-speed automatic gearbox which is only available in 4×2 trim. Moreover, the diesel powerplant has been built with gear options of 6-speed manual and 6-speed automatic. Additionally, it gets both the options of 4×4 as well as 4×2.
Starting from lowest to the highest variant, this newcomer has been priced from Rs. 25.92 lakhs-31.12 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). The new Toyota Fortuner will be seen to rival the likes of the Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet TrailBlazer.
