The Toyora Camry and Corolla special edition models get a sportier look on the exteriors and interiors with a debut slated for next week.
Set to debut at the Chicago Auto Show commencing on 14th February, Toyota USA has revealed two new special edition versions for the very popular Camry and Corolla sedans for the 2016 model year. Both the models come with a sportier upgrade on the exteriors as well as the interiors lending a more dynamic appearance to the styling. Compared to the corporate-friendly India spec model, the US spec Corolla and Camry appear sportier and the special edition versions come almost a year after the models were comprehensively updated in the US.
Starting with the Toyota Camry Special Edition for the 2016 model year, the updates are available on the Camry SE trim and comes with new 18-inch alloy wheels, gloss black paint accents, smoked tail lights, unique badging and two new colours namely Blizzard pearl, as well as Blue Streak metallic, added to the palette. On the inside, the 2016 Camry special edition comes with high contrast blue stitched sporty looking seats that are trimmed in new SofTex bolsters and also get blue inserts, shift boot and dash; a new sporty instrument cluster with blue details and white background as well as floor mats with the ‘Camry Special Edition’ logo.
In terms of powertrain, the 2016 Toyota Camry special edition continues to draw power from the same 2.5-litre petrol engine tuned to produce 178 PS and 170 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. Toyota will be restricting the Camry special edition production to 12,000 units that will be manufactured between August 2015 to January 2016.
While the upgrades on the 2016 Camry are purely aesthetic, the 2016 Toyota Corolla Special Edition gets more comprehensive updates that also improve the driving experience courtesy of the steering wheel paddle shifters, sport driving mode and rear disc brakes. On the outside, the 2016 Corolla special edition gets new 17-inch alloy wheels with gloss black finish, special edition badging, as well as three new colours exclusive to the special edition model – Absolutely Red, Black Sand Pearl and Super White.
On the inside, the Toyota Corolla special edition comes with red contrast stitching on the seats, red accents on the dash and door trim and Special Edition floor mats with logo. Power continues to come from the 1.8-litre petrol engines that belts out 132 PS of power and 128 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed manual and CVT gearbox options. Toyota will be restricting the production run of the special edition Corolla to 8000 units that will be manufactured between August and December 2015.
