The Corolla has been a very successful model for Toyota in the Indian market. Toyota launched the Corolla way back in 2003 and then the Corolla Altis was introduced in 2006 and given an update in 2008. Until now, Toyota has managed to sell more than 85,000 units of the vehicle in India. Now, Toyota has stopped producing the existing Corolla to make way for the new 2014 Corolla that will be launched in the second quarter of the year. The new Corolla has already been launched in few other countries and will be showcased at the upcoming Auto Expo.

The 11th generation Toyota Corolla has significant styling changes on the exteriors as well as interiors. Toyota has also added a whole lot of new features to make the vehicle more appealing. Mechanically though, the new Corolla will be powered by the same engines that do duty on the existing model i.e. 1.8-litre dual VVTi petrol engine that cranks out 138 BHP of power and 173 Nm of torque and the 1.4-litre D-4D oil-burner which gives out 87 BHP of power and 205 Nm of torque. The diesel engine is really under-powered for a vehicle in this segment and hence Toyota should provide the engine in a higher state of tune to extract some more power.
The Toyota Corolla sold 300-odd units every month in 2013 barring December where it managed just 150-odd units. The new Corolla will be priced slightly higher than the existing model since it comes with a significant number of changes. Toyota will manufacture the 2014 Corolla at their Bangalore plant which has an annual production capacity of 2.1 lakh units. The 11th generation Corolla will compete with the Chevrolet Cruze, Volkswagen Jetta, Skoda Octavia and Hyundai Elantra.
