The next generation Innova will be launched next year for Asian markets, and is expected to be showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo with the all new diesel engine.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has been thriving on the success of the Innova in the country for the longest time. The company’s bread and butter model, the Innova has maintained consistent sales and still remains one of the most sought after choices in spite of new entrants in the segment. With the current generation model getting really old, Toyota has commenced development on the next generation Innova that was spotted testing once again in Bangalore with some heavy camouflage.
Schduled to launch in India sometime in 2016, the next generation Toyota Innova is based on the new Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) which also underpins the next gen Fortuner. The chassis retains the ladder on frame layout, but will get tweaks to be more lighter than the outgoing model. The 2016 Innova will also see comprehensive changes to the exteriors and interiors, while retaining the spacious cabin it has been known for. Expect to see a larger grille, reworked headlamps and an all new bumper at the front, while the rear gets a new tail light cluster and bumper. The rear quarter glass also gets a new design.
Inside the cabin, the 2016 Toyota Innova will be a lot more premium with new features on board. The last row of seats are also expected to be more comfortable than the outgoing version. A major change on the next gen Innova will be the all-new turbo diesel engine that replaces the current 2.5-litre unit. The new engine is said to be more powerful, efficient with reduced NVH levels and will also come with an automatic transmission along with the manual. Toyota is expected to unveil the model next year for other Asian markets, while its Indian debut can be expected at the 2016 Auto Expo along with the next generation 2016 Fortuner SUV.
