Toyota has decided to cut the price of the hybrid variant of its Camry sedan by a big margin. The price revision is the result of the drop in VAT levied by the Delhi Government on purchase of eco-friendly vehicles.
The Toyota Camry is the quintessential entry-level luxury sedan which is striking to look at and is loaded to the brim with features. The current king of the D2-segment sedans from Toyota consistently sells more than all of its competition combined, that too mostly in the hybrid propulsion form. Thus to maintain that flow of customers, Toyota has decided to cut the price of its Camry Hybrid sedan and pass on the benefit it received from reduction in taxes to its new customers.
Toyota has cut the price of the Camry Hybrid by a whopping Rs. 2,30,000/- in Delhi. The decision is the direct result of the lowering of VAT levied by the state government on the vehicle from 24% to 12.5% under NEMMP (National Electric Mobility Mission Plan) in order to promote eco-friendly vehicles. The standard petrol variant won’t see any change in ex-showroom price and will continue to be sold at Rs. 30.28 lakhs, whereas the hybrid version will now be retailed at Rs. 30.90 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).
As seen above, this price revision has made the already popular hybrid version of the Toyota Camry even more lucrative as the ex-showroom price difference over the petrol variant is very less now. Also, amid the tightening of government policies to curb pollution from higher capacity engines, more customers are now flocking towards electric and hybrid vehicles. The Maruti Ciaz SHVS diesel underwent a similar exercise recently when the VAT on the sedan was also reduced which led to a drop of up to Rs. 69,000/- in its ex-showroom price in Delhi.
The Toyota Camry Hybrid is powered by a 2.5-litre petrol engine that produces 160 PS of power while an electric motor has also been attached that generates extra 143 PS leading to a combined power output of 205 PS. The Camry Hybrid can operate on a fully electric mode. It is linked with a six-speed electronically-controlled CVT gearbox to return a claimed fuel efficiency of 19.16 km/l.
