A trademark application filed by Toyota shows it has chosen the title ‘Belta’ for its Yaris C-segment sedan’s replacement which is expected to be launched soon.
The Belta will be a rebadged Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, following the path paved by the Toyota Glanza and Urban Cruiser, both of which are rebadged versions of the Baleno and Vitara Brezza from Maruti.
As such, it is clear that Toyota will only make slight changes, if at all, to the exterior of the C-segment sedan. The Belta could thus come with a new front bumper and redesigned alloy wheels.
A recent photo that has surfaced online shows the radiator grille that Toyota will use on the Belta and it looks similar to the one on the Ciaz, except for the badging of course.
Like the exterior, the interior of the Belta will mirror that of the Ciaz, including the features. However, upholstery colour changes might be introduced by Toyota.
Powering the Toyota Belta would be a 1.5-litre engine with a mild hybrid system. It makes a maximum of 103 HP and 138 Nm of peak torque. Gearbox choices will include a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic.
While the Toyota Belta trademark has been uncovered, the title that the carmaker has chosen for its rebadged Ertiga is yet unknown. However, the 3-slat grille design of the MPV has been leaked already.
Like the sedan, the compact people carrier will also come powered by the 1.5-litre mild hybrid petrol engine, while a diesel variant might be introduced later.
