To be able to make the D22 and 560B MPV, Toyota is currently upgrading the second plant at Bidadi

Toyota is planning to introduce a C-segment MPV code-named 560B in India next year. This new car will arrive after the world’s largest automaker launches a new compact SUV (codename – D22) this festive season.

These 2 cars are part of the company’s new plan to revamp its Indian product line-up and they will be manufactured at Toyota’s plant in Bidadi, Karnataka. In all, the Japanese firm will launch 6 new models here in the next 2 years under its plan called the “Big Leap”.

The first of the lot will be the Hilux pickup truck which will be introduced in India tomorrow (20th January, 2022), followed by a heavily revised Glanza (rebadged Maruti Baleno) and the new Urban Cruiser (rebadged Maruti Brezza), after which the D22 compact SUV will be introduced this year.

As mentioned above, in 2023, the company is poised to field the 560B MPV and it also has plans to launch Maruti’s Ciaz and Ertiga which will be renamed as Belta and Rumion, respectively, while a rumoured crossover based on the Maruti Baleno could also be added to the firm’s Indian portfolio.

Nothing is known about the Toyota 560B MPV as of now. It could be based on the Daihatsu New Global Architecture (DNGA) as the D22 and its sibling from Maruti that has been code-named YFG.

Also, like the compact SUV, the 560B MPV should come with in petrol-only and petrol-hybrid versions, but the C-segment people carrier will have 3-rows of seats.

In the next fiscal starting April, the Japanese firm plans to produce 45,000 units of the D22 and YFG, a third of which will be the hybrid variant. In time, production will be increased to 2 lakh units and the compact SUV will also be exported to other nations.

Through this move, Toyota will be able to completely utilise the manufacturing capacity (3.1 lakh units) of its Karnataka facility in the next 2-3 years.
