The love affair Indians have with SUVs, as proven by August 2020 SUV sales chart, has not diminished even the slightest as the segment witnessed massive growth over the same period last year.
In fact, it is the opposite that has happened, as sales grew by 66 percent year-over-year, with 35,121 units finding takers in the month of August this year.
If It is Maruti that is known for hatchbacks, then Hyundai Motor Group seems to have cemented its place as the top go-to brand to buy an SUV. Such are the numbers posted by the two SUVs from the group.
Hyundai Creta sits at the top, with 11,758 units getting sold in August this year, a 96 percent y-o-y growth, while the Kia Seltos’ sales grew by a very significant 71 percent, selling 10,655 times over.
Except the XUV500, Duster, Compass and Kona Electric, all the other cars in the list posted positive growth and the highest of the lot was from Maruti S-Cross with 279 percent, while Tata Harrier came second with 169 percent, having sold 2527 and 1694 units respectively.
Nissan Kicks was the car that posted lowest growth number at 12 percent (192 units), while the Kona Electric posted highest degrowth at 70 percent, selling only 26 units in August 2020.
Premium SUV category, as can be seen in the above August 2020 SUV sales list, did not fare well, however. Except two cars, all the other vehicles in the list saw sales drop considerably.
Sitting on top of the list, the Fortuner saw 733 units move out of the showroom, a 17 percent degrowth, while second placed Endeavour from Ford saw 637 units get sold.
But this, for the Endeavour, was a good 11 percent increase in sales. But the number is shadowed by the Hyundai Tucson’s growth, as it saw 139 units get sold in August, posting a 140 percent sales hike.
However, it was the complete opposite with cars such as Honda CR-V and the Mahindra Alturas G4, since they lost nearly all of their sales, posting 91 and 99 percent degrowth, respectively. Overall sales of the segment dropped too.
