The sales figures for August 2019 are here as the numbers for September 2019 are still awaited.
Scooters are one of our country’s favourite means of transportation. However, the aggravating economic and automotive slowdown are creeping up on the zippy town riders. The sales figures of the scooters in the country are plunging with each passing month, and though the 4,67,421 units total sales is a healthy number to look at a glance, the truth is that this figure used to be a lot higher earlier.
Honda’s Activa has been the choice of almost every Indian family for the longest as it has proven its worth in the 20 years of its life in India. That translates in the form of a sales topping figure of 2,34,279 units in August 2019. Currently, the Honda Activa is in its 5th generation that is powered by a 109.19cc single-cylinder motor, that develops 8 PS of power and 9 Nm of torque.
The second, third and fourth positions have been secured by the TVS Jupiter, Suzuki Access and Honda Dio respectively. These vehicles have had the same positions for almost every month of this year. However, the TVS Jupiter is down the negative route with -27% YoY (Year on year) degrowth while the Honda Dio tumbled -3%.
However, TVS Ntorq is the only scooter in the top 10 best selling scooters that coped up with a staggering 42% positive growth. The Hero Maestro suffered the steepest decline of -60% with a total sales of 12,724 units only. Though the Hero Pleasure could also not escape the degrowth hole, it did manage to remain in the single-digit at -9% selling after selling 16,308 units this August.
